At Ionic Conference 2022, the Ionic Developer Experts (IDE) program was announced, and I was certified 🎉

I can now call myself "Ionic Developer Expert Masahiko Sakakibara"—celebrations aside (I am going to invite friends for drinks), as far as I can tell I am the first in Japan, so I am going to start the following services as OSS activities. I have handled individual requests before, but I am opening this up publicly, so feel free to reach out.

OSS activities

Free private review of articles and slides

I sometimes hear that without someone to fact-check, a speaker might share incorrect information and "participants might leave with wrong knowledge." Well, fear of being corrected publicly is just as common (laugh). "Review it on the day!" is a bit much, but if you can give me a few days before publication, I will check articles and slides for factual accuracy and offer advice—please get in touch.

Note that materials used only for work and never published (e.g. client proposal decks) are paid work. Closed community conferences or material you publish after using it at work are fine.

Free Ionic Meetups outside Tokyo

I plan to organize Ionic Meetups in regional cities. Ionic Meetup has resumed in Tokyo, but real-world meetups dropped sharply during COVID (TechFeed reported less than one tenth), making it harder to access technical information, so I want to run them actively in regional areas too.

I held the following event in Sapporo on June 19.

I will keep organizing events on my own like this, but my local knowledge and network have limits, so I would love to hear from you if you say "we want to do it / people want to join, let's do it here." Scheduling permitting, I will help run them actively.

There is no minimum attendance (one-on-one would be a bit much though... laugh), so if you are interested, please contact me!

For those who want to become Ionic Developer Experts

For anyone thinking "I have used Ionic forever—I want to be an Ionic Developer Expert too!", here is an overview of the program.

Benefits

Official Ionic expert recognition

You can officially call yourself an Ionic Developer Expert. Ionic will feature experts on their website going forward.

Early access to expert-only information

You receive early access to new products and feature releases in the Ionic ecosystem (AppFlow, low-code tools, and so on).

Influence on the product roadmap

You get opportunities to share opinions on new ideas and features Ionic is considering for development and release. Personally I am very happy about this—Ionic has many committers and contributors in the US and Europe, and sometimes I think "Japan needs this kind of feature." For example, year-month picker order differs.

Asia including Japan: year-month
US and Europe: month-year

I have always felt heard as an OSS user, but being able to influence as an expert is wonderful.

Communication with the Ionic Team (office hours)

I wonder how this goes for me as someone in Japan who is not great at English (laugh).
Apparently you get direct Q&A and private office hours with team members.

Other perks include expert-only swag and partnership opportunities. Applying is very easy—just submit the form below, so if you are interested, I hope you apply too!
